QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR MOVE TO TÜRKIYE?
MOVING TO TÜRKIYE
Daily life
Living and working in Türkiye combines one of the most dynamic economies in the region with a deeply rooted, family‑oriented culture. Türkiye ranks among the emerging economic nations and offers attractive career opportunities in sectors such as tourism, construction, automotive, textiles, agriculture and the growing technology scene in Istanbul. The Turkish way of life, characterised by great hospitality, extended family celebrations and the famous tea culture, enables a unique work‑life balance. KOCH Moving Logistics reliably accompanies you on your path to this hospitable and economically dynamic country.

ENTRY INTO TÜRKIYE
Residence regulations
Entry into Türkiye is straightforward for German citizens. German nationals can stay in Türkiye without a visa for up to 90 days (within any 180‑day period). A valid passport is required for entry; the identity card is not accepted. If a stay of more than 90 days is planned, a residence permit (İkamet İzni) must be applied for before entry. Every foreigner wishing to stay in Türkiye longer than the visa‑free period must apply for this document. A residence permit authorises legal stay but does not automatically authorise taking up employment – a separate work permit is required for gainful employment. KOCH Moving Logistics reliably accompanies you on your path to this hospitable and culturally rich country.
LIVING IN TÜRKIYE
Real estate market
The Turkish property market offers remarkable diversity, from elegant city apartments in the centre of Istanbul to sun‑drenched villas on the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts to traditional stone houses in the Cappadocian villages. Average rental prices vary greatly by region: in Istanbul, rent for a one‑bedroom apartment is around 900 $, in Ankara – $650, in Izmir – $580 and in Antalya – $600 per monthUtility costs range between 80 $ and 90$ per month. Istanbul, with 16 million inhabitants, is the largest and most popular city, located in both Europe and Asia. In 2026, the income check for residence permits was significantly tightened, and extension applications intended solely for tourists are routinely rejected. KOCH Moving Logistics helps you find suitable accommodation and supports you in navigating the Turkish property market.

WORKING IN TÜRKIYE
Job opportunities for Germans
Working in Türkiye means being part of a dynamic and emerging economic culture that values commitment and flexibility. German skilled professionals are in demand in many sectors – especially in tourism, engineering, automotive, construction, healthcare and IT. The Turkish economy is booming, and the young population offers a large labour potential. The average gross monthly salary is around $900 in Istanbul, $750 in Ankara, $680 in Izmir and $580 in Antalya. The statutory minimum wage was raised in 2026 to a net amount of 28,075 Turkish Lira (about $655) per month. To take up employment, you need a work permit; a residence permit alone does not authorise you to work. KOCH Moving Logistics helps you discover the right job opportunities for expats, freelancers and entrepreneurs.
EDUCATION IN TÜRKIYE
Schools for expats
In Türkiye, expats have access to a diverse education system with public schools, private schools and international schools. Since 2012, compulsory education in Türkiye lasts 12 years and is divided into three levels: primary school (6‑10 years), middle school (10‑14 years) and secondary school (14‑17 years). Primary and secondary education is free in public schools. For German families, the German overseas schools offer an excellent alternative: in Ankara, Istanbul and Izmir, there are German, French, Italian and English schools at various levels. The higher education landscape comprises 207 universities, including 123 state universities, and is compatible with the Bologna three‑cycle system. KOCH Moving Logistics helps you find the best options for your children.

IMPORTANT ASPECTS – TÜRKIYE
Healthcare system
The Turkish healthcare system consists of both public and private healthcare. The public system is supported by the Ministry of Health but can be overcrowded, especially in urban areas. All expats applying for a visa must have private health insurance in order to legally work and live in Türkiye. Many expats opt for their own health insurance through a third‑party provider to gain access to high‑quality private hospitals. The quality of care in Turkish hospitals is advancing rapidly; comprehensive government reforms have led to significant investments in healthcare over the past 20 years. KOCH Moving Logistics helps you find your way around the Turkish healthcare system.
FINANCES
Tax system in Türkiye
The Turkish tax system is progressive: individuals pay income tax at progressive rates from 15% to 40%. Der Körperschaftsteuersatz beträgt 23 %. The corporate tax rate is 23%. The tax year corresponds to the calendar year, and the tax return must be filed by the end of March of the following year. A double taxation agreement exists between Germany and Türkiye (2011), which prevents income from being taxed in both countries. Noteworthy is a new law that Türkiye is planning: a 20‑year tax exemption on foreign income for new arrivals, which could be extremely attractive for international skilled professionals. KOCH Moving Logistics provides valuable assistance for your financial planning.

TURKISH CULTURE
Cultural characteristics
Türkiye delights with a fascinating and extremely vibrant culture, strongly shaped by its history as a bridge between Europe and Asia. The two highest Islamic festivals are Ramadan Feast (Ramazan Bayramı) at the end of the fasting month (2026: 20‑22 March) and the Sacrifice Feast (Kurban Bayramı) (2026: 27‑30 May).
