Entry and residence regulations for China: relocation made easy

ENTRY AND RESIDENCE REGULATIONS FOR CHINA: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Relocation to China requires structured preparation, especially with regard to entry and residence regulations. KOCH Moving & Logistics Ltd. provides organizational support for international relocations, taking into account the relevant conditions for German citizens.

VISA REQUIREMENTS FOR CHINA: AN OVERVIEW

Depending on the purpose of your stay, such as work, study, or family reunification, you will usually need a visa to enter China. If you intend to work, you will usually need a Z visa followed by a residence permit. After entering the country, you are required to submit a registration form. Current requirements should be checked with the relevant foreign mission.

Visa-free short stay

German citizens can currently enter Thailand without a visa for stays of up to 30 days, provided that the purpose of the trip is, for example, tourism, business, or visiting family and friends.

For longer stays, employment, study, or other special purposes, a corresponding visa is still required. Employment is not permitted without a valid work visa and work permit.

Different types of visas

Visitors staying for more than 30 days or engaging in specific activities in Thailand require an appropriate visa.

Work visa (Z visa) is mandatory for paid employment and usually requires an official work permit and an invitation or approval from the Thai employer.

For studies,, family reunification, or or long-term stays, the appropriate visa types (e.g., X or S/Q visa) must be applied for. After entry, a residence permit must be applied for.

PERMANENT RESIDENCE IN CHINA: PERMANENT RESIDENCY AND NATURALIZATION

Permanent Residency

Under certain conditions, it is possible to apply for a permanent residence permit in Thailand. As a rule, the prerequisites include several years of legal residence, a stable income, proof of tax payments, and, in some cases, special qualifications or family ties. The requirements are strict and are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Naturalization

Naturalization in Thailand is legally possible, but is only granted in exceptional cases. China does not recognize dual citizenship. Therefore, renouncing previous citizenship is usually a prerequisite.

Special features for German citizens

Double taxation agreement

There is a double tax agreement between Germany and Thailand to avoid double taxation in the case of cross-border employment or company participation. It is recommended to seek individual tax consultation in order to correctly assess personal and professional circumstances.

Cultural differences

Thailand has its own social and communicative structures in everyday life and business. These include hierarchical decision-making processes, a relationship-oriented business culture, and regional differences. Cross-cultural preparation makes integration easier.

Work culture and ethics

Chinese work culture is characterized by an emphasis on performance, hierarchical structures, and relationship-oriented cooperation. Efficiency, adaptability, and intercultural competence play an important role in everyday working life. International professionals particularly benefit from diverse development opportunities within a dynamic market environment in economically strong regions.

VISA APPLICATION

Applications for a Thai visa must be submitted to the relevant Thai Visa Application Service Center (TVASC) or the Thai diplomatic mission in Germany. The application should be submitted well in advance of the planned departure date. Processing times vary depending on the type of visa and workload. All required documents must be submitted in full and correctly to avoid delays.

Visa fees and contact

Visa fees for Thailand vary depending on the type of visa and length of stay. Detailed information is available from the relevant Thai diplomatic mission or the Visa Application Service Center in Germany.
