Questions about moving to the Netherlands?
MOVING TO THE NETHERLANDS
Daily life
Living and working in the Netherlands combines the highest standard of living with a cosmopolitan and tolerant society. The Netherlands ranks among the most stable economies in Europe and offers attractive career opportunities in sectors such as logistics and trade, IT, agriculture and food technology, the creative industries, financial services, as well as energy and water management. KOCH Moving Logistics reliably accompanies you on your path to this open and successful country.

ENTRY INTO THE NETHERLANDS
Residence regulations
Entry into the Netherlands is extremely straightforward for German citizens. Thanks to EU freedom of movement, you can enter visa‑free with a valid identity card or passport. For a longer stay or to take up employment, no special residence permit is required – you only need to register with the local municipality (Gemeente) and will then receive a Burgerservicenummer (BSN). KOCH Moving Logistics supports you in the structured preparation of your administrative registration in the Netherlands.
LIVING IN THE NETHERLANDS
Real estate market
The Dutch property market offers a wide range of housing options, from urban apartments in Amsterdam, Rotterdam or Utrecht to rural single‑family homes in the provinces. Rental prices vary greatly depending on location – in the major cities rents are comparatively high, while cities such as Eindhoven, Arnhem or Enschede offer significantly more affordable housing. KOCH Moving Logistics helps you find suitable accommodation and supports you in navigating the Dutch rental market.

WORKING IN THE NETHERLANDS
Job opportunities for Germans
Working in the Netherlands means becoming part of an innovative and pragmatic work culture that values flat hierarchies, initiative and a healthy work‑life balance. German skilled professionals are in demand in many sectors – especially in healthcare and nursing, IT, engineering, education, and the skilled trades. Thanks to EU freedom of movement, you do not need a separate work permit. KOCH Moving Logistics helps you discover the right job opportunities for expats, freelancers and entrepreneurs, and assists you in successfully starting your career.
EDUCATION IN THE NETHERLANDS
Schools for expats
In the Netherlands, expats have access to an excellent education system with public schools, religious schools, international schools and private educational institutions. The Dutch school system begins with primary school (Basisschool) and continues through various levels in secondary education. For international families, cities such as Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and Eindhoven offer numerous international schools following British, American or IB curricula. KOCH Moving Logistics helps you find the best options for your children – from kindergarten to secondary school.

IMPORTANT ASPECTS – THE NETHERLANDS
Healthcare system
The Dutch healthcare system is one of the best in Europe and is based on the principle of compulsory insurance. Every resident is required to take out basic health insurance (Basisverzekering) with a private health insurer. Monthly premiums range between approximately €120 and €150, depending on the insurer and chosen model. Children under 18 are insured free of charge on their parent's policy. Medical care is excellent throughout the country, and Dutch doctors and hospitals enjoy an excellent reputation. KOCH Moving Logistics helps you find your way around the Dutch healthcare system.
FINANCES
Tax system in the Netherlands
The Dutch tax system is moderate by international comparison and is characterised by relatively low income tax for low and middle incomes. The progressive tax system provides for staggered tax rates. A special feature of the Dutch tax system is the wealth tax, which is levied on net assets – with a generous allowance per person. As a German emigrant, you benefit from the double taxation agreement between Germany and the Netherlands, which prevents your income from being taxed twice. KOCH Moving Logistics provides valuable assistance for your financial planning.

Dutch culture
Cultural characteristics
The Netherlands delight with a fascinating cultural diversity strongly shaped by their history as a trading nation, their liberal society and their close connection to water. From the world‑famous tulip fields to King's Day, when the whole country celebrates dressed in orange, to traditional windmills and picturesque canals – cosmopolitanism and customs meet here. The Dutch art and museum landscape, with the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum and the Anne Frank House, is unique worldwide. KOCH Moving Logistics helps you discover these special features and quickly find your way in Dutch society.
EMIGRATING TO THE NETHERLANDS
Leisure and recreation
The Netherlands are a paradise for outdoor and culture lovers. In spring, the tulip fields in Keukenhof attract visitors; in summer, the beaches of Scheveningen and Zandvoort invite you to relax. Cycling along the coast of North Holland or through the national parks is a must – the country has a well‑developed network of cycle paths. City trips to Amsterdam, Rotterdam with its futuristic architecture, The Hague or historic Utrecht are also worthwhile destinations. KOCH Moving Logistics supports you in settling in quickly, so you can fully enjoy the numerous leisure opportunities.

LANGUAGE AND INTEGRATION
Learning Dutch
Dutch language skills are an essential foundation for successful integration, even though many Dutch people speak excellent English (and often German as well). Learning the local language makes everyday life easier – from reading official letters to contacting neighbours. Public libraries offer free language cafés, adult education centres (Volksuniversiteiten) offer low‑cost courses, and private language schools offer intensive courses. Language skills and an awareness of the open, direct Dutch communication style facilitate daily life and professional life. KOCH Moving Logistics provides valuable tips to help you feel at home quickly in your new environment.
